Frequently Asked Questions

GroundScope Unit

What does GroundScope do?

GroundScope is a subsurface verification tool that helps crews confirm underground conditions before excavation begins and creates documentation that can be reviewed and shared across teams.

Does GroundScope replace 811?

No. GroundScope complements 811 markings by adding a verification step before excavation begins.

Does it replace Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)?

No. SUE provides detailed engineering surveys. GroundScope helps verify underground conditions right before digging starts.

When should GroundScope be used?

GroundScope is typically used after 811 markings and before excavation begins to verify underground conditions at the intended dig location.

Many crews also use GroundScope during excavation through progressive scanning to maintain visibility as digging continues.

What utilities can it detect?

GroundScope can find buried pipes, wires, and irrigation.

How long does a typical scan take?

It depends on area size and required confidence level. A standard 10ft scan takes less than 30 seconds. Scan at a pace of 1ft per second. Then allow for the table to process the scan, which takes about 2-seconds per foot scanned.

Do I need a specialist to operate it?

No. GroundScope was designed for ease of use and most operators can learn the workflow in about ten minutes.

Can we use the hardware without the subscription?

The short answer is no. The Basic plan is required to access our AI and use GPS location.

How is GroundScope different from traditional GPR?

GroundScope is designed for fast verification directly at the point of dig. It focuses on ease of use and immediate feedback so crews can confirm underground conditions quickly without requiring specialized interpretation.

Utility Risk Cloud

Is the Utility Risk Cloud required to use GroundScope?

Yes. An active subscription is required to operate GroundScope and access AI processing, data storage, and reporting.

What’s the difference between Basic and Pro?

Basic supports core scanning with on-device results and limited storage. Pro adds cloud-based job management, reporting, analytics, and visibility across crews and projects.

Can GroundScope be used without internet?

Yes. Scans can be performed offline. A connection to LTE, WiFi, or Starlink is required to sync data to the cloud.

How long is scan data stored?

Pro plans include access to scan history for up to 365 days.

Can I export scan data and reports?

Yes. Data and reports can be exported in formats such as CSV and GeoJSON for GIS and analysis workflows.

Who uses the Utility Risk Cloud?

Field crews capture scans in the field. Office teams review, organize, and generate reports based on that data.

Can I manage multiple crews and jobsites?

Yes. The Pro plan includes fleet management features that allow you to track activity across crews, devices, and locations.

What kind of reports can be generated?

Reports include utility summaries, scan coverage, compliance documentation, and other structured outputs for internal and external use.

Where is data stored and how is it secured?

Data is stored in the cloud using industry-standard security practices, including role-based access control and secure authentication.

Who owns the data?

Customers have access to and can export their scan data while their subscription is active. GroundScope does not sell customer data.

Does it integrate with other systems?

Data can be exported for use in GIS and other workflows. API-based integrations may be available depending on your needs.

Demo

How long is the demo?

Most demos take 15–20 minutes depending on your questions and use case.

What will be covered during the demo?

We’ll walk through how GroundScope works, how it fits into your current workflow, and what your team would experience using it in the field.

Is this a sales call?

No. The goal is to show you how GroundScope works and help you determine if it’s a fit for your team.

Can we schedule an in-person demo?

Absolutely! If GroundScope is a fit, we can coordinate an in-person demo with your team following the initial call.
